I think its a really bad development in our society when everyone looks to blame someone else for anything that happens to them. No one can take responsibility for themselves any more or simply have an “accident”
We create a sue culture where we are too scared to help each other. That can’t be a good thing can it ?
Cold calling people and encouraging them to sue, I think is outrageous !

We used to dust ourselves down and get on with it. These days it’s more like America, the litigation culture. Just tell the cold callers to F off, or they’ll need compensation for what you’ll do to them.
No. Laws need to be made, enforced. If you have a duty and you violate that by act or omission, you need to be sued.
They’re greedy bastards & have no interest in fairness. Just lining their pockets.
I agree – and you know it’s getting bad when a JUDGE can clog up the court system for weeks suing his dry-cleaner for millions becuse they….lost his pants???

I hate them. It’s much a drain on the County Court system.
And the stupid signs business put up because of them: “this is hot”, “this floor is slightly wet” . . . you would think we were all little children.

We have a system that makes it possible, the only way to change it would be to pass laws that prevent abusing the legal system – the problem is most congressmen are lawyers – protecting their own, and themselves if they want to go back to practicing law when they leave congress.
Honestly I think universal health care could put a dent in lawsuits as well. That may sound like a non-sequitor, but honestly if I was on a jury and I saw a guy in a wheelchar for life suing a car company who’s CEO was pulling a $50 million bonus, even if the guy did something stupid and it wasn’t the car company’s fault, I would probably throw the guy a couple million, I wouldn’t want him ending up on the street begging for money.
That’s the compassionate thing to do, if not the ‘right’ thing to do. I think many people feel that way, they wouldn’t want to be responsible for putting someone on the street with no health care.
If I had confidence the guy would get the health care he needed and our system would take care of him, I would be less likely to make that decision.

laws need to be enforced, & when you win it dont always mean a pay out. infact extensive proof is needed its not as simple as oh i hurt my leg on a leaf that the council didnt sweep up, for example.
No, no win no fee lawyers would ever take on a case that could not win. its how they make their money. many people get refused.
If you had an accident & it was not your fault, you may end up dissabled, without a job, mortgage to pay etc. even if you are covered for your payment protection insurance they wont just pay up without proof & proof would be that you have won a case against someone.
or are you all saying that you dont have such insurances ?
